BACKGROUND

How did you get into Health and Wellness?

I have always loved helping others and working with the public, and my passion for natural health and fitness drew me to physical therapy as a career. After practicing as a PT for several years, I found yoga as a personal practice, felt the mental and physical benefits and decided to pursue certifications in yoga to complement my practice as a PT.

How long have you been working in Health and Wellness? What is your training background and how long have you been practicing/teaching?

I have been practicing PT for over 11 years now. I started my education at Milligan College with a BS in Biology and completed my PT training at University of Cincinnati where I graduated with my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2010. I have completed my yoga training, CYT 200 and 500 with Marianne Wells Yoga School and World Peace Yoga, respectively. I have completed extensive Myofascial Release training with John Barnes and Pelvic Floor training with Herman and Wallace, in which I plan to continue my training. I have recently completed my Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist Certification.

Who influenced your career path (who have you enjoyed learning from, mentor, etc.)?

I get a lot of inspiration from PT yogis including Judith Lasseter, Ginger Gardner and Lara Heiman. Also, Leslie Howard has inspired my work with yoga and the pelvic floor with evidence based research on the subject. Locally, I appreciate the skills I learned in my internship with Phyllis Schulte and more recently with Cathy Guenther, who are both very skilled PTs and have set good examples in treating pts with clinical knowledge as well as with compassion and respect.

What makes you love your field?

I love that I am able to spend time with my patients and get to know them. This allows for us to problem solve effectively and get them back to what they love to do. There is always more to learn when you are a PT and I love to learn and collaborate with peers and other healthcare professionals.  It is so fulfilling to see a patient’s progress in their physical healing and the small successes along the wa

INTERESTS/SPECIALITIES

What kind of clients do you love working with?

I love to work with anyone who is motivated to take responsibility for their health! I have worked with adults of all ages and love helping them get stronger, whether that means running after having babies or if that means taking the first steps after a stroke. I have recently been focusing my continuing education in helping postpartum women (at every stage) recover. As a new mother myself, I understand the changes our bodies go through and how important it is physically and mentally to feel like yourself again.

What sets you apart from other professionals?

I like to look at someone as a whole person, throughout their whole lifespan, including biopyschosocial factors. There are many different factors that influence the way we move and the way we feel as humans.  I believe strongly in the benefits of Physical Therapy, and educating people to be mindful of the way they move, breathe, and interact with their environment is a huge piece of the puzzle. I love to help people do what they love to do, and move better while doing it.

What’s your mission?

My mission is to empower others to take care of their health, improve their movement patterns and give them the tools to do so.

HOBBIES

What brings you joy? What do you do with your spare time?

I love traveling and getting to share those experiences with friends and family. I’ve been fortunate to see a lot of the world already and can’t wait to see more. You’re more likely to find me in the mountains than at the beach. When I’m in Ohio, I enjoy exercising, hiking, and spending time with my family.
